The Astro 300 is Black Diamond's compact, dual-fuel headlamp: it ships ready to run on 3 AAA alkaline batteries, or you can add the optional rechargeable BD 1500 li-ion battery when you want to skip disposables. On its brightest setting it puts out 300 lumens with a beam that reaches about 55 metres, dropping to 150 lumens on medium and 6 lumens on low for close work around camp.
Runtimes stretch from about 4 hours on high to 140 hours on low, giving it enough range for anything from an evening hike to a multi-day car-camping trip. It's IPX4-rated to handle rain and sleet from any angle, and the low-profile, ergonomic body stays balanced on your head instead of tipping forward. Simple dimming and strobe settings round out a headlamp that's equally at home as a backup light in a pack or an everyday camp headlamp.
